On Black Friday, the FBI made a record 185,345 firearm background checks, the Associated Press reports. That works out to about “two per second”.
According to National Instant Criminal Background Check System statistics, the previous record 177,170 checks in one day was on December 21, 2012, which also marked the end of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar and thought by some to be the date in which the world would end.
Friday, November 27, 2015 was also the day three people were murdered and nine others wounded in a mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood office in Colorado Springs.
