”Four years of Trump, selfishly, sounds a lot more enticing” — GQ interviews D.C. ‘journalist’

GQ has a story up about “Inside the Mind of the Undecided Voter”, in which Rebecca Nelson interviewed five undecided voters to see what was on their mind. Four of these men gave their name, town, and vocation, but one person did not — an anonymous 42-year old “politics reporter” from Washington, D.C.

And his answers (yes, I’m talking a wild guess that the “journalist” is a man), pretty well illustrates the problems with the country’s political reporting coming from inside the Beltway.

This guy is “tortured” by his indecision., but when it comes down to it: “I cannot stomach Hillary Clinton. I just can't get with her.” And, of course, he’s very, very concerned about the “huge deal” with her email.

And then I also obviously struggle with Donald Trump. The things I like about him are: I believe that sometimes you just have to blow shit up to build it again, and I think that a Trump presidency would do that. But just when I sort of get there with him, like, Ohhhhhhkayyyy, he says or does something and I'm like, "No, I can't!" Like saying, "What do you have to lose?" to African-Americans. Like, WHAT? What?

He likes Trump though. Boy will it be cool to “blow shit up”! But, this guy says he feels a little icky voting for a white nationalist in all. But, hey sometimes you gotta just “blow shit up”. Who cares who gets hurt, amirite?

Afterall, he’s bored:

I think I would just have to sort of give in to my chaos theory of Trump and just hope that he surrounds himself with the right people enough that it's not a total disaster? Or Hillary would have to do a really convincing and honest come-to-Jesus with the media. A real press conference.

Yeah! Me. Me Me. If only she would pay attention to me and my press bros in D.C., then maybe this “journalist” could maybe vote for Clinton.

I cover this stuff every day. So for me, four years of Trump, selfishly, sounds a lot more enticing, just because it's going to be a dumpster fire. And a Clinton administration would be more of what we're seeing now, which is carefully orchestrated speeches, behind-the-scenes Wealthy McWealthysons going in and out of the White House, and really horrible transparency with the press.

People who are attracted to a dumpster fire are the ones unlikely to get hurt or burnt by it. Sure it’ll be horrible, but this privileged “journalist” will be entertained! So, who cares if the nation burns, competent government is boring. Plus, this fool has convinced himself that, Trump is going to be a lot more transparent! In the end, it is all about his hurt feelings and a desire to “blow shit up.”

I would probably vote Trump because of my feelings about Hillary, and my—I just want to see what happens.

Based on the reporting this presidential cycle coming from the majority of the country’s political journalists, I believe this guy’s views are fairly exemplar on their thinking on Trump. It sure gives a new meaning to “press pass”.

And about why the anonymity for this ignorant, entitled bozo?

@GWBiscuit@jbouie they asked that I not use their name, I thought it was better to have the perspective of a politics reporter than not

@GWBiscuit sorry it comes across that way. In this instance, it's a reporter protecting a source

Hat tip to Jamelle Bouie of Slate for calling out this GQ article.

I am increasingly convinced that there are many people covering this election who either don't know the stakes or don't care.
